Whenever I have a little free time, I usually find myself taking a trip with my wife to enjoy the outdoors. Alabama is a beautiful state with so much to offer, so I wanted to pass along a few of our most recent adventures.
Little River Canyon: This is a National Preserve located on Lookout Mountain, a part of the Southern Appalachians. We enjoy visiting two times of the year; in the Fall for its beautiful foliage and in the Winter for the majestic land views and high flowing waterways.
Walls of Jericho Trail: This is a 6.6 mile loop. It’s a strenuous hike; however, it’s worth the effort. Take plenty of water. On your way out, the last mile you’ll have about 1,000 feet on incline to deal with…pace is important. Once you see all of the geological formations, it’s hard to believe you’re in Alabama. If you love the outdoors, put this adventure at the top of your list. Our plans are to visit this trail at least twice a year.
Cherokee Rock Village: Until recently, I had never heard of this unique gem located just outside of Leesburg, Alabama. We saw beautiful tall rock formations that attract rock climbers from all over…as for me I’ll will keep my feet firmly on the ground!
Cherokee Rock Village also has primitive camping, overlooking the bluff with an incredible view of Weiss Lake. We will definitely return.
While exploring private property in Blount County, I came across this incredible rock ledge, never did I expect to see this at the top of the hill. You never know what you can find while exploring the outdoors. Smoke stains on the ceilings give evidence of campsites years ago.
Hope you’ve enjoyed me sharing our latest adventures. Alabama is truly a wonderful place to live and explore.
Thanks, Eddie
